Whether you're looking to try something new, stay fit, or immerse yourself in a historical and competitive sport, our Fencing Foil Course for Beginners is the perfect starting point!

Course Overview:

Duration: 6 Hours (Divided into six 1-hour sessions), held every Wednesday, 19:30 to 20:30.

Start Date: 15th January 2025

Location: Abergele leisure centre

Cost: £30 per person

What You'll Learn:

  1. Introduction to Fencing:

    • Understand the history and evolution of fencing.

    • Learn about fencing foil.

  2. Safety and Equipment:

    • Familiarise yourself with essential fencing gear.

    • Learn the importance of safety and proper equipment handling.

  3. Basic Techniques:

    • Master the on guard position and basic footwork.

    • Develop simple attack and defence manoeuvres such as lunges, parries, and ripostes.

  4. Advanced Footwork and Strategy:

    • Improve your agility and control with advanced footwork drills.

    • Learn to execute feints, compound attacks, and strategic defences.

  5. Practice Bouts and Rules:

    • Engage in supervised practice bouts to apply your skills.

    • Understand the official rules, scoring system, and priority (right of way) in foil fencing.

  6. Advanced Techniques and Final Assessment:

    • Explore advanced techniques like compound attacks and circular parries.

    • Participate in final assessment bouts to showcase your progress.

Who Can Join?

  • Age: Suitable for all ages 13 and above.

  • Fitness Level: No prior experience or specific fitness level required. Everyone is welcome!

What to Bring:

  • Comfortable athletic clothing, including long tracksuit bottoms (NOT shorts, Jeans or leggings).

  • Indoor athletic shoes

  • Bottle of water

  • All fencing equipment will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you have it.
